I was an exchange student from San Jose State University in 1993. I was selected to attend a semester in Australia at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

When my classes ended in June, I embarked on an ambitious road trip around the continent. I drove a 1975 Ford Falcon along the coast and across the outback through all kinds of terrain and slept on the ground in a sleeping bag. On accasion I stayed at youth hostels in popular destinations.
